Tower of the Roman Fort Divitia, 4th–5th Century AD
The modern pavement outlines two towers of Fort Divitia and the adjacent wall sections. The round towers protrude clearly from the line of the thick defensive walls. This design can be traced back to new defensive tactics used by the Roman border troops: In this way, missile weapons and artillery stationed atop the towers could also fire upon the attacking enemy from the side.
