Tower of the Medieval Fortress Divitia, 12th–13th Century
During the 12th and 13th century, noble rulers – much to the displeasure of the monks of the Benedictine Abbey of Deutz – built several fortifications within the Roman fort. Together with the ancient gate, a horseshoe-shaped tower formed an architectural ensemble and was probably built by counts of the house of Berg. Its ground plan is outlined by the modern street pavement.
