Retaining Wall of the Embankment of the Bergisch-Märkische Railway, 19th Century
Between 1879 and 1882, the terminus station of the Bergisch-Märkische Railway was built in Deutz. Laid on an earthen embankment, the rail tracks ran parallel to the river. The retaining wall of the embankment was decorated with colorful brickwork on the Rhine side and was built atop the foundations of the Roman fort. In 1913, the station was decommissioned when today’s Deutz Railway Station came into operation.
